Ealing Half Marathon secured for 5 years

By | News

BIG EXCITING NEWS!!

We are delighted to announce that the future of the Ealing Half Marathon has now been secured for the next 5 years. The Community Interest Company has entered into a partnership with Motiv Running. from 2018 to 2022, with the same team continuing to deliver the event. Alongside this, EHM Legacy CIC will now undertake the all year round community work which has been a big part of the event for the last 7 years

Founder, Kelvin Walker, added ‘It’s great news that Ealing Half will now be around to see its 10th birthday, with every runner now directly contributing to the community projects we undertake at no extra cost to the entrant. That idea I had whilst jogging round Gunnersbury park in 2011 has helped to create communities, both running and volunteering – both of which were part of our mission.  To see it continue is truly amazing. Thanks to everyone that has played their part in continuing to make the event such a success”.

Well done Adam Kirk-Smith

ALTER G ANTIGRAVITY TREADMILL AT MOVE CLINIC

By | News

Are you looking to safely increase your current mileage with a reduced risk of injury?

Or, are you struggling with an injury which has stopped you running or reduced your mileage?
If you’ve answered yes to either of the above questions, our official physio partner Move Clinics can help you.

At Move they love runners and know that runners love to run!! So injury can be extremely frustrating. There is a way you can get back to running more quickly, continue running with your injury or safely increase your miles with reduced lower limb load.

Introducing the Alter G® Anti-Gravity Treadmill® available at Move Clinics in Chiswick. The Alter G uses anti-gravity technology developed by NASA, it allows the user to run at as low as 20% of their body weight.

The benefit of this is the user is able to run with their regular running style whilst significantly decreasing the loads placed on their lower body, meaning reduced stress on joints and muscles leading to accelerated rehab times, an earlier return to running or ability to increase mileage without risk of injury.

They have been using the Alter G treadmill to help rehabilitate people recovering from a variety of lower limb issues including Achilles tendinopathy, Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction, anterior knee pain, gluteal tendinopathy, ITB pain and lower limb joint replacements.

Of course, the Alter G is not just for those injured runners, it’s a great way to get miles in the legs without the associated stress…therefore a great tool for late in your event preparation or during build up times in your program.

Call Move Clinics on 0208 994 8328 or email info@moveclinics.com to discuss how the Alter G can help with your training.

Anyone who books to use the Alter G before 31st May 2018 will be entered into a prize draw to win a free place in the 2018 Ealing Half marathon.

We’ll leave you with some video footage of one of their patients Tom, using the Alter G to get him back to running after a knee injury.

Official charities announced for 2018 Ealing Half Marathon

By | News

Ealing Half Marathon have announced that Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research UK will be returning as Official Charities for the event on Sunday 30th September 2018.

These two charities have been brought back by popular demand after being warmly received at the 2017 Ealing Half Marathon. It is hoped that the 2018 event will see many more runners sign up to run and raise money for these excellent causes, which are two of the UK’s top charities.

Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity investing in research into dementia care, cause, cure and prevention, whilst working to meet the needs of people affected by dementia and inspiring change. All fundraising efforts at the Ealing Half will help the charity to make greater progress towards its vision of a world without dementia.

Meanwhile, Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. The charity’s pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped to save millions of lives, and support from runners at the Ealing Half Marathon will help them to take another step closer to beating cancer.

As well as being a fantastic platform for charity fundraising, the Ealing Half Marathon is a big favourite among the running community, each year welcoming thousands of runners from near and far to soak up the famous #EalingFeeling. Boasting incredible community support and a superb atmosphere, the race has received three Gold awards and one Silver award for the UK’s Best Half Marathon at the prestigious Running Awards. It has once again reached the shortlist of The 2018 Running Awards, and voting is taking place now.

The 2018 Ealing Half Marathon will be the seventh edition of the race and it is set to be the biggest and best yet. The UKA-measured, single-lap course follows a closed-road route around the leafy streets of West London, taking in parts of Central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, West Ealing, Hanwell and St Stephens. The race starts and finishes in Ealing’s Lammas Park, where the race village is located.

Race Director Sandra Courtney commented, “We are delighted to welcome back Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research UK as Official Charities for the 2018 Ealing Half Marathon. It was a very easy decision as they received huge support last year and are close to many people’s hearts. We hope that many runners who have already signed up to the 2018 Ealing Half Marathon will request a fundraising pack and use the race as an opportunity to raise money for these fantastic charities. To all those not yet signed up, now is the time to secure a charity place, get training and start fundraising! We are looking forward to giving an extra big cheer for all charity runners at the 2018 event and helping to make a real difference to others.”

Suzy Edington, Events Fundraising Manager at Alzheimer’s Society, said“The Ealing Half Marathon has been supporting Alzheimer’s Society since 2014 and the donations we have received have been vital in providing information, advice and support for people with dementia, their families and carers. We are thrilled to be back on board for 2018 as this is a fantastic event with incredible community support and a great atmosphere.”

Samuel NowellSports Team Executive at Cancer Research UK, said“It is an honour to be an Official Charity once more for the Ealing Half Marathon, which is such a popular and well-organised event in the race calendar. Our life-saving work is funded entirely by the generosity of our supporters, so every pound raised by runners at the Ealing Half will help us move that little bit closer to beating cancer.

To request a fundraising pack or to register your interest in a charity place for Alzheimer’s Society, go to www.alzheimers.org.uk/ealinghalfmarathon. A charity place can be secured with a £10 registration fee and the minimum fundraising target is £300.

To request a fundraising pack or to apply for a Cancer Research UK charity place, go to www.cancerresearchuk.org/support-us/find-an-event/ealing-half-marathon. Charity places are free for runners who pledge to raise £350 or more for their life-saving research.

The 2018 Ealing Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 30th September.
