It began as an idea to celebrate Ealing’s involvement in London’s 2012 Games.

But two months ahead of the Olympic torch’s arrival in the borough, the Ealing Half Marathon has already clocked up 2,012 entrants.

And organisers of the race – on September 30 – say the “overwhelming” public interest in the event means it should prove to be a lasting legacy of the Games.

Race director Kelvin Walker said: “When we opened for entries, we had no idea how popular it would be.

Organisers say they are delighted to hit the landmark, just 10 weeks after entries opened to the borough’s first event of its kind.

But they are calling for even more people to take on the challenge of running 13.1 miles to help them realise their goal of having a mass participation running event through the roads of Ealing on September 30.

Event director and Ealing resident Kelvin Walker says: “The response has been fantastic. We’ve had loads of interest from people right across London and further afield.

Today, the 500th entry into the 1st Ealing Half Marathon was processed.  The vision of organising a mass participation running event in West London is coming together nicely.

Race Director, Kelvin Walker said "We've had some great feedback so far from runners both near and far as well as fantastic support from local businesses and the community.  Sunday 30th September is going to be a day to remember for the whole borough of Ealing".

The Ealing Half Marathon 2012 is offering Guaranteed Entry to all participants until maximum capacity is reached.
